Question:

Ways to Fix Global Warming?

Ok, I have a few ways I think would help.

- Man made clouds

- reflective mirrors in the oceans

- put reflective mirrors in space

But, I'm just a 14 year old boy I can really change the hole global.

What are you ideas to fix it?

  1. eliminate the causes. start using/demanding renewable energy on a global scale...

  2. Well, we could knock a hole in the ozone layer, thus allowing all the co2 to escape into the atmosphere.

Or, we could kill everybody in the world, so that there would be no one to cause man-made global warming, but the earth would then get warmer naturally just to spite us.

Actually, we should blow up the sun. After all, isn't it the sun that gives the earth warmth in the first place? We need to get rid of the problem at its roots, and blow up that d**n star before it kills anymore hedgehogs!

  3. Reduce our use of fossil fuels, and conserve energy.

Trying to oppose one giant man made change with another is a very risky idea.

"If the Earth came with an operating manual, the chapter on climate might begin with a caveat that the system has been adjusted at the factory for optimum comfort, so don't touch the dials."

  4. Convert U.S. electric grid to solar energy as in this proposal   http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=a-so...  Possible with less public money spent, about 1/4  than we now give oil companies in subsidies, and about 1/40 of what all the hidden costs of oil add up to.

      65% solar by 2050 and near 100% by 2100

With a clean grid, we could go to all electric cars.

    More windfarms = cheap electricity

Electric cars for local deliveries, etc

Electric car range between charges is improving as well as performance. They already have enough range for many applicatins like this.

Later we can move to nearly all electric cars.

Conserve energy everywhere we can- probably the single biggest thing we can do.

Stop cutting trees for paper; we can make it from hemp.  First we have to get rid of a ridiculous law that outlaws hemp growing.

Convert to bioplastics from petroleum based wherever possible.  These are starting to be produced and can be 100% compostable.

Replace incandescent light bulbs with CFLs and  LEDs.  Incandescents have been called heat generating devices that also happen to make light.

All that heat is wasted energy.

    Recycle more

Develop more biomass to methane use.  Fuel cells can convert the methane from water treatment plants and landfills and farms.

Use fuel cells to power what are now natual gas power plants.  Or work in conjuction with conventional gas plants.  One company already makes commercialy available fuel cells for this.  They run on the same natural gas but much cleaner.

Place manure digesters on farms to convert to methane .  Here's a good example of this.

"Wild Rose Dairy in Webster Township, WI is home to an innovative renewable energy facility powered by cow manure and other organic waste. The farm is home to 900 dairy cows, and an on-site anaerobic digester creates methane-rich biogas from their waste, which is used to generate 750 kilowatts of electricity per hour—enough to power 600 local homes 24/7."

The methane is piped right into the existing natural gas pipeline.

That's enough energy from every 1 1/2 cows to power one house.

Encourage more use of mass transit.  Some cities have found that it is actually more economical to make mass transit free, as people use it much more.  Reduces hidden costs like traffic control, accidents, traffic congestion etc

Ocean Wave generators  PG&E in California is already doing this.

More efficient gas, diesel and hybrid cars.

    Photovoltaic panels on roofs etc.

Sail assisted ships.  One european company has a parasail system for ships that adds 6800hp and will cut fuel costs by 10-30% and 50% in ideal conditions.  A ship can be retrofitted with this for about what it cost for 2-4 days of the cost of leasing a large dry bulk cargo ship, or $250,000.

Build more energy efficient homes using passive solar principles.

  5. litter. raise your carbon use by 7000%. (carbon emissions are good. remember that.) use gasoline in non gas efficient vehicles like semis or black exhaust from the pipes. light massive bonfires with kerosine and plastic and tires and used motor oil (make a word out of the bonfires saying "blah"). make some napalm. use lots and lots of electricity and water. hunt. kill some animals legally. chop trees down (timber). when you go to bed, park your car and leave the car running with the gas all the way down (make sure you lock the doors and have another key to get in the car). use all the resources extravagantly. smoke alot of stuff too. breathe (in and out, in and out). do not recycle. when you have a chance, burn all your garbage instead of throwing it away. burn the used motor oil. burn tires. dump the used motor oil in ponds and then burn it. light yourself on fire. go fishing. pollute your pond in the back yard.

  6. I'm so glad to see you understand the sun is the culprit.  Tell your classmates!!

Knowing it's the sun and not man, why do you believe man has any power to do ANYTHING to prevent it?  I'd suggest we find solutions to live in a world with higher temperatures...like ways to keep homes cooler, more efficiently....or maybe a light clothing material with UV protection.

  7. Do things at home: recycle your garbage, grow your own vegetables, save energy, use a bike, ecc.

  8. Paint everything white!!

  9. To fix it is to admit that there is Global Warming.

The sun causes 99.999999999~% of the earths heat.  Human time on this earth isn't even a second on the geological clock.

5 million years ago, co2 was 50 times higher than it is now?  (Look up CO2 in wikipedia for yourself.)  If 5 million years ago it was that high, how did it get lower?  Man wasn't around to correct it...

How did the ice age end?  Wolly Mammoths don't drive SUV's.

  10. simple drop a giant ice cube in the ocean every now and then

  11. I would be more interested in finding a way to bring it back.

  12. So you want to promote global cooling with those ideas? That is simply silly. The earth going up 1 degree over the next 100 years is not that big of a deal. Warm areas are needed to grow food which we need to eat and survive last time I checked. Warmer winters mean less energy usage to heat homes. Global Warming is a good thing despite what you read sorry.
