Ways to get better at volleyball?

OK so tryouts are on the 15th, and so I have about half a month to get really good. I'm sort of straddling the line between JV and Varsity, and there is another sophmore and a junior who I am either even with in skills or am just a bit better than at setter. But I wanna blow them away at tryouts, including the really good freshman that will probably start. But I wanna start, so I need to get really good. So far, if its a 5-1 itll be the freshman, but if its a 6-2 itll be the freshman and one of us three, hopefully me. But I wanna get good enough so if its a 5-1 itll be me. What drills can I do and stuff to get better before the tryouts? At everything, not just setting.

  1. Remember stay positive no matter what. If you mess up shrug it off, cheer on other players, and keep a smile. Coaches want someone who will bring up the team, not down.

Drill wise, practice setting the ball against a wall, and make sure the set is high and try to aim for a certain spot all the time. Do the same with passing, but make it more intense with passing because the whole game starts offf with a successful pass. Hitting wise, make sure you are BEHIND the ball, not under, when you hit it, and smake sure to snap your wrist. On a Final note, always call the ball and be loud.

  2. Well practice. But some small drills you can do by yourself...

Okay practice setting to yourself and slowly lower yourself to your knees and then down to your butt so your sitting and then lower yourself down so your laying down and then get up (all the time setting). Thats a setting drill to improve control i'm a setter for my varsity highschool team and my coach has me do that.

I have more so if you want them then please e-mail me.

    Good Luck!  (:

  3. i play too and i am trying to get on JV or varsity in high school in 2 years.  first, to practice serves...serve it against a wall if noone wants topractice with you. otherwise, just keep trying. practice jumping (if you have to do jump-serves) or just regular without a ball. that helps a lot and it gives you an idea of how high and how hard.

to practice bumps...hit them to a wall and see how many you can get. challenge yourself to maybe...20, then 30, and so on.

for setting, im not sure how to help you there. i guess just set it to yourself a few times and bump it to the wall...?? i dont really know because im too short to set.

hope this helped! good luck making the team!! email me if you need mroe help!

  4. Practice, practice, practice, and get advice from other players.

    And practice.

  5. practice more it will make u better

  6. ok i play jv volleyball at my school and what i did was to get better at jumping and to improve your hieght open our garage door at jump and reach the top of the garage. stay on 2 feet and jump off with both then repeat and you should improve in jumping and gain more air. remember wehen hitting you make sure where the ball is goign before you start your appoach and when you ar a tthe ball then hit and snap your wrist as much as you can. make sure you are arched all the way over with your arms out. coaches look for attittude and knowledge of the game..also folleowing directions. those are the 3 main ones.

to practice you can set up against a wall...or set 100 times without stopping (not as easy as it sounds) for serving you can find a wall and serve to the wall..your goal is to make it come back to you. you can have a friend throw you the ball and you can practive diving and passing.

all these things helped me tremendously so i hope you make it!

*oh and if you are not sure about something...ask a quesiton...it shows the coach that you are really focussed and working to make the team...worked for me!

  7. practice...practice... practice...

    and a lot of training...
