I'm only thirteen years old && scared of dying. I'm a christan, but sometimes I can't sleep thinking that people could be right about no afterlife, && I then I think I could die in my sleep right now. So I don't sleep.

every night I have this worry, so death has become my biggest fear.

Does anyone know a way to get over this?

  1. I have the same fear. Sometimes when I think about it I feel like I'm having a panic attack and it gets hard to breathe. It is a very scary feeling to wonder what is next and to think that everything you know and love you one day wont be able to experience anymore.

I've found that it helps to take a deep breath. I know that sounds like a simple solution, but sometimes just breathing can calm you. Take a few deep breaths and remind yourself that yes, there is an after life and even though you're gone from earth you will be in a much better place. Sometimes it helps me to get up and get a glass of water and walk by my parents room, it's comforting to know that they're there.

  2. well get used to the idea of death. i have yet to see true proof of the afterlife. the only thing that we know is what we do during this life, and that is what truly counts(for me at least)

  3. Before you do anything else please read your bible, dying is apart of life. but you do not have to worry about that,if it scares you talk to god and read your bible about it. say your prayers and leave everything in god's hands, and you will be able to get a good nights sleep. okay. so just focus on being 13, you have so much in life that you have to do. besides worrying. go and get yourself a good nights sleep. god bless you. ps, don't forget to say your prayers ask god to protect and watch over you day and night and while you are sleeping and he will do it. just believe.

  4. Honey, there is no easy solution, but I suggest that you should get some professional help from a psychologist or counsellor.  They are properly trained to deal with these sorts of questions.  A fear of dying is often a symptom of an anxiety disorder so this may need to be addressed.  And lastly, you aren't the only one who thinks about dying.  It is a perfectly normal worry and much more common than most people would admit.  You just need to address your concern because it sounds like it is taking over your life.  You are very brave for posting the question and good luck :-)

  5. You should just focus on the things that you can do and can change, rather than focussing on things that you cant change.  All of us are going to die.  Everyone who you meet, talk with, laugh with and go to school with.  To get over this you just need to face facts and carry on doing what you can do to the best of your ability.

  6. I suffered like you with this fear, but I was in my 20's when it really escalated, purely because I was worried what would happen to my son if something happened to me, being that I am now his only relation.  I still get pangs of anxiety of it, particularly when I am unwell, but I've had Counselling to help put it in perspective.  I already felt angry that I was worrying about something that is not in anyone's control..I know it will happen, but I had to learn that I was not making the most of the life I had and that I should be enjoying it to the full.  Through the Counselling I found it was the loss of my Granddad, Brother and Father that had kicked my fear off, it may be that you too have become afraid because you have lost a loved one or even a favourite pet, so I suggest you talk to someone you can trust and find some constructive help.  The fear will never go, but you can learn how to deal with it, without it controlling you.  Think of all the things you want to do with the life you have, don't let it stop your ambitions and dreams and keep talking if ever you need to.

It's not been easy to explain, but I hope it helps and I wish you a long and happy future. x

  7. I have this fear, too. I just get that "what if" feeling sometimes. What you have to do is think rationally. Think about how likely it is something terrible would happen. You will realize that the chances are basically zero. You are safe, at home, in your nice cozy bed. This is what I think about when I'm in your situation (which sadly happens a little too often).

  8. i cant advise you on how to get over this, but let me tell you , once you do get over it and accept it as a part of life,,, no longer fearing it,, its euphoric. spectacular feeling. i just turned this way today :)

  10. Hey i'm thirteen too, and I'm afraid of the dark, I think satan will come get me.  And there is an afterlife for some people, but it's a great one!! with God.  Just pray and read your bible, I know it's hard to make time but you just gotta, and right before bed would be the best time.  Also i'd talk to your mom or dad.   It helps, and keep a night light =) it's not childish if it helps, and if it looks cool like a mini lava lamp.

    Hope this helps.  G'luck
