Ways to prevent period blood stains?

Today was the first time i had blood stains on my jeans at my school. It wasn't that embarrassing because my school is an all-girls school but of course, who does wants to get blood stains.

So, what is the best way to prevent it, especially when you're in school. thanks!

the only thing i can suggest is to wear a tampon and a towel or an extra large sanitary towel (if u dont like tampons) with wings for extra protection and keep a spare pair of jeans in your locker just in case
