at my school we recycle paper but i dont think that is enough... i was wondering if maybe anyone has any other ideas about school recycling... plus im in theatre and we want to travel to NYC for the end of the year trip. but we live in texas...which means fundraisers all year plus a little money from everyone... only thing is, i know i wont be able to afford to go, but really want to. I was wondering what people thought about recycling the coke bottles from vending machines or switching to cans [or selling them too for theatre] and recycling them.. kills two birds with one stone. saves the planet plus earns us money.. im a little worried though because we have some kids at my school [especially since im in high school] who might act like children and try to ruin it!

anyway any suggestions are appreciated

  1. For example in Malta my country there are over 100 schools participating in a waste manegment project fund by Waste serv

    - Get informed and thing of things you can do to make a difference. For example instead of bringing lunch in paper bag try to adopt No to plastic bag policy by bringing lunch in a lunch box. But in case you have a canteen try for example using reusable trays, plates, cups and mugs.

-Establish and support a collection programm for recycables

-Use a photocopier who make two sided copy to reduce paper and buy recycable papers

Use internet for sending emails or internet banking to pay bills

    - Ask suppliers who bring food in canteen in reusable containers

  2. If you're able to start clubs at your school, start a "Mother Earth" club, that's what I did. I found a teacher to be our sponsor and then we called around and got the garbage companies to donate some recycling cans. BUT before we got the official cans, there were just regular trashcans (with lids) that had little holes in them so that aluminum cans could go into them...later we learned that plastic could also be combined. But we just put up some posters that reminded people to recycle, and then on the trashcan itself (laminated) we had signs that said, "Only cans + plastic bottles"

PLUS, at our school we have an "environmental science" class, so they were a big help and the students in there got a BUNCH of boxes and so in every classroom there's a box for plastic/aluminum/glass, and one for paper, and this was before we even got the "official" bins...and I'm pretty sure there was a recycling dumpster. ANYWAYS, the kids in that class would come around once a week and recycle everything in the boxes. So, you don't need to have anything official, I think as long as you've got a recycling dumpster (if not, call school's garbage company, see if they can donate one or give you one for cheaper) then you'll be just fine.<--for after fundraising.

And I think it's great that you want to recycle/fundraise, keep it up!!

  4. In my school, there is a couple of recycling bins placed at the canteen.Pupils will tend to wash their waste items and put it inside the recycling bins.

Also, there's some recycling projects we do too.We promote "LoveTheEarth" message by designing  eye-catching posters to encourage people to save the earth by recycling.

Our school also ask Mascots to dressed like a bin to go around picking things' that students would like to recycle.

There are many ways we can recycle in school too :]
