  1. The problem is the seal-the cap. Ball brand jars are generally preferable owing to their resealable lids. Glass is a plentiful substance essentially composed of silica or beach sand- its' the energy needed to form them that is valuable.

  2. toothpaste and toothbrush  kitchen utensils  plastic silverware

receipts   flowers and beads   nail file and polish and perfume

change for holidays and occasions   beef jerky and cheese

keys and comb or brush    peanuts and trail mix  or dry cereal

ketchup and jelly packets   rubber bands and paper clips

  3. I like to use them as planters. I put about 2in of rocks or seashells (not fake) at the bottom, and then fill the rest with loose dirt, and a flower of choice. They actually are easier to take care of, as far as watering. If all else fails, you could put a cactus in there. :) :P

"individual" Teas. Presertivitives. You can use them as canister holder type things - putting flower, sugar, or cookies in them. (YUM!) Change jars. Potpourri. Candy dish. Snow globe(s). Pencil/pen holder.

With the jars, and I think this is REALLY neat! - you can use like regular gluesticks (or "fancy" craft glue) and tissue paper, and you can sort of "decopauge" (sp) the jars. So, you can give them your own look and feel. Also, I was looking at Martha Stewart's site, and she suggested putting like cloth and/or ribbon(s) and/or buttons on the top. It actually looked really cute.

Running through more thoughts. I think they're pretty convenient for just storing things period. You know, like cereal. You open and close the bag too many times, then it starts to get stale faster, but if the cereal is in different containers, you open one at a time until you need the other. Kinda preserves the food a little better. You can store things you use for crafts. You can store batteries you want to "throw away", cuz you know those are supposed to be recycled. When it gets full, you can bring it to the place to recycle 'em.

I'll leave you the Martha Stewart link, as well as a link to find a local place that recycles batteries.

    HAVE FUN! :)

Oh! just saw this - you can make them candle holders, or make your own candles with them!!!

BTW, Martha Stewart has over 150 ideas as to what to use your jars for! LOL! (not that surprised, I guess.) Last link is the search I did on her site.

  4. we don't have any way to recycle glass here either, which is sorta depressing, especially if you see how many beer bottles the bars throw away each night, since just about everyone here drinks out of bottles instead of cans.

I used to try to save as many jars as i could, I still save certain ones.. My boyfriend likes using the larger ones as cups for iced tea and stuff, which is nice because he can take them out in the garage or with him to work and i don't care if they get lost :)   I use alot of them to store leftovers, like soup, pasta dishes or whatever. sometimes i make my own salad dressing or BBQ sauce, or a seasoning mix.  There good for storing dry ingredients too. my mom used to keep jars of dried beans and stuff on the counter, useful and looked nice..

A really quick way to make instant pudding is to put the 2 cups of milk in a large jar, add the mix, put a lid on it and shake like crazy! (just make sure the outside of the jar is dry so it doesn't slip out of your hands!)  There alot of books and websites about gifts in a Jar, alot of them are like cookie mixes and stuff, you layer all the dry ingredients in a jar, then decorate it, write a card that says how many eggs or whatever to add and you have a quick easy gift.

thats just a few kitchen ideas.. outside the kitchen, you could use them for anything, storing craft stuff, crayons, nails bird food, change. etc,

  5. well i've done this and it's very lovely decor.. i make lamps out of them.. i buy christmas lights miniature ones that are short in length like perhaps 25  lights in a string. (Any decor store).. and i buy a bag of potpourri scented , it comes in all assorted colors and scents at walmart or any local store i'm sure. Anyway, i place the end of the string of lights gradually inside while pouring potpourri inside and just play with it until all the lights and potpourri is well set inside the jar.. and the end connecting electric outlet thingy is out of the jar.. now connect an extention cord to it and to a socket..and turn off the lights.. it's very beautiful.. i dont put the lid on i leave it open on top.

P.S. the warmth of the lights will give off the scent of the potpourri.. it's awesome!! and you can do the same to any type of glass jar, or vase.. be creative!
