what do you think are ways to make the gun industry obsolete? By creating a more lethal weapon? or making guns useless with a more defensive technology (magnetic force field)? Or banning them? which solutions do you think will bring down the gun industry?

  1. You better kill me and every member of the NRA first.

  2. Good luck Skippy, it'll never happen in the USA

  3. Seems unlikely that it could be done, and in any event there's no reason why it SHOULD be done.

  4. I like your line of thought here, and next we abolish prisons......and then laws. If there were no laws then there couldn't be criminals! If there were no criminals then we don't need guns!............. Are you truly this simple minded? Or are you just trying to pi$$ people off?

  5. None of the above.

The reality of gun ownership precludes any end to the industry.

Non-lethal countermeasures are, in some cases, very effective when dealing with one rational individual. But repeated real world events involving drunks and/or drug addled violent persons have shown the futility of most non-lethal devices.

The police cannot be everywhere, and even where they are effective, they are still not your first line of defense.

You must be ready to prevent those who will deny you your peace and security.

Anything else is a pipe dream.

  6. impossible. my dad is in the national guard and my friend helps out with it.  not to mention if we do stop making guns ppl will make there own and they will cuaus more fatalitiey then manufacrured guns (home made can blow up  *not form experiance*) and the wars that go on. the contries PAY to have guns so i dont think that there is any way to stop manufacing guns

  7. Invent phased plasma rifle technology, a shoulderable laser weapon, or some other high tech weapon, patent it, and guns will pretty much become obsolete.

Oh or magnetic railgun technology, thats more feasable then the others.

  8. removing access to guns for regular people wont keep guns out of the hands of criminals. removing criminals from the streets would be a much better solution

  9. Why would any reasonable and intelligent person want to "bring down " the gun industry?  This country would be better served by imprisoning or institutionalizing those who have an irrational fear of a tool.

  10. Buy controlling interest in all the manufacturers worldwide, and close the factories.  When new companies spring up to replace them, buy them, too.

  11. Great idea fella. Yeah that is just what we need to do. These "Big Gun Manufacturing" is keeping us down. They're the scum of the earth. We need to shut them down.

Oh, wait no, that is a stupid idea. There is no reason to "bring down the gun industry."

You do have one good idea, "creating a more lethal weapon." I think we should do that. With all the gun control measures, the public need a more advanced legal way to defend themselves. Some kind of death ray or some nonsense. "More lethal," I want a new weapon that will kill the guy that breaks into my house twice.

No, in answer to your question, we should not stop gun manufacturing, we should build it up by getting rid of "gun free zones," and lifting the ban on automatic weapons. We should not allow mayors and city councils to ban firearms in whole cities or even just city property.

  12. As long as firearms have a military or law enforcement application, gun manufacturers will never be obsolete. Even if conventional firearms as we know them today were to suddenly fall out of favor, I'm sure the same manufacturers would be called upon to produce the next weapon. As long as the need for guns or weapons exists the gun industry will always be around.

Although various governments are investigating and using non-lethal weapons including those based on sound and other forces, the comparative simplicity and effectiveness of conventional firearms guarantees that they will be the weapon of choice for a long time. Consider that the concept of handguns and long guns has remained virtually unchanged since its inception (some kind of tube, an explosive powder, a metal projectile, a source of ignition and a mechanism to set the ignition of the powder in motion). The materials and efficiency of design and operation may have changed over time but that's about it.

Also, why eliminate the gun industry? Guns keep us all safe when used by police and soldiers and they also have a number of practical uses (hunting for instance). Besides, if we replace guns with "a more lethal weapon" how does that affect what I assume is your ultimate goal- to eliminate violence and armed conflict?

Then, as previous posters mentioned, there's the NRA and the gun lobby, which I won't even get into.
