Over the past 26 days, I've gained 10lbs, because we keep eating fast food. Now the problem isn't I'm not healthy, or I'm eating wayy to much, its the fact, that its so consistant as a meal source, that my training for football is take a blow for it.

I'm pissed off a little at myself, for slacking little, (but not enough to lose what I gained the last two months) but I'm tired of the weight gain from the food. I'm training for footy, and I left Kansas at 184, now I'm 198! I know she lives ina decent sized city (el paso) but we need healthier food, because I cannot get back to my weight (it effects my speed) by burning enough calories to counter effect, seriously.

At home I burned about 2000+ calories a day, gained so much speed and strength, and was about 14-15% fat, abs visible, but now they are slowly dissappearing because of this fast food, which I eat the same amount but you know the grease and stuff. :( Its ruining training, and my body. Suggests please..

  1. Eat healthier fast food if she wont change her mind. Snack wraps at mcdonalds, salads, a grilled chicken sandwich, etc. Or burger king has the new mac and cheese with apple sticks meal.

People say OMG FAST FOOD YOU'RE GOING TO DIE! It matters what you eat not where you eat.

  2. You could offer to make some of the meals yourself and then kind of go back and forth with making dinner.  That way she isn't always the one cooking and cleaning.

  3. Flat out tell her! "Mom, I cant keep eating this fast food...I'm gaining weight!"  Offer to help her go for groceries, plan the meals, and cook! She probably is pushed for time or exhausted when she gets home, which is why it's fast food so often.  I know I'm pooped when I get home!

  4. You know it may be that your Mom has so much going on that grabbing fast food is the quickest way to fit in a meal and still get everything she needs to do done. Something I do with my children who are 14 and 17 is that they each take one night a week and they make the meal. It doesn't have to be anything real fancy. This helps me out because I don't have to cook that night and it helps them learn to know how to prepare meals so that when they get out on their own they will already have experience with it and not have to rely on fast food. I always make sure that on those nights that I am close by incase they might need a little help but they pretty much do it on their own. Last night my son made grilled chicken b*****s, steamed broccoli, and rice. It was something easy and quick.

Maybe this is something you might want to try. I'm sure it would be a surprise for your mom and also a nice treat for her. You could maybe arrange more nights where you either prepared a meal or helped her. This way you would be spending more time with her (which every Mom wants) and also learning a very useful tool for when you are no longer living at home.

Hope this helps you some or at least gives you something to think about. Good luck to you....

  5. Try talking to your mom, and ask if you could change your eating habits for a more healthier one. If that doesn't work, make your own healthy meals.

  6. I'm assuming that your mom is feeding you a lot of fast food because she's busy and on-the-go a lot.  Let her know that you understand that she's got a lot to do but that you're really trying to eat healthy and you'd rather have healthier food.  Offer to go grocery shopping for her and offer to help her with the cooking.

If you still end up at the drive-thru a lot, then ask her to start buying you the healthy options - salads with grilled chicken or wraps rather than the heavier, higher-calorie options.

  7. maybe start subtle, is there somethings that are her "specials" you could say hey mom I have really been wanting " " when she makes if make her feel good and say I wish you would cook more often your a really good cook. Moms sometimes don't get recognition so if you make something if it it will make her feel good and she will want to do it more. Also help her out, ask her what she needs and try and go to the store if you can, that woulr probably be a good help and take some of the mom load off of her:)

  9. Tell her you will cook or help her cook dinner tonight

  10. Start cooking dinner yourself.  Make healthier food choices when you have to eat fast food - grilled sandwiches, no fries, fruit, veggies or yogurt.  Instead of going out to eat, tell her she can if she wants, but you are staying home and eating a sandwich.  A sandwich is a good dinner - whole grain bread, meat, veggies - very healthy.

  11. Say "Mom, I'm not eating this c**p anymore, take me to the store"

Even offer to cook as long as you don't have to keep eating that garbage every day.

  12. It is nice to hear a young person concerned about their weight and health, to maintain their health and  sport activities. First do not forget these places you are going to offer salads, grilled items(sandwiches with out the bread) that may be  eaten with knife and  fork, or with only the bottom  of the bread  and they have a calorie guide for you to look at too; and also you can ask for no condiments,  with extra lettuce etc...

I would talk to your mom exactly like you explained it on here. Eating out is not a good habit to get in. The family that dines together at home is a healthier family emotionally and physically.Offer to help in the kitchen then you can start learning to cook, that is the best motivator to get a mom back in the kitchen. Best wishes!

  13. Is your mom working and is finding it hard to work and get home and get supper on the table?  It's easy to fall into the fast food trap, when you are a busy mom with hungry people.

However, young man, if you are in college, you are absolutely responsible for whatever goes into your mouth -- so at least half of the responsibility for your predicament falls on you.  You COULD choose a salad instead of fried chicken, or choose to eat all vegetables instead of the lasagna or spaghetti. You can get a taco salad without the shell . . . etc., etc.

If you're old enough to be concerned about this, you're old enough to be part of the solution. Sit down with your mom, explain your problem, and see what you can do to help her with preparing meals that meet your needs.  Maybe you and she need to do some meal planning.  That takes a little time, until you get the hang of it, but once you have 14-20 meals puts together, then it's just a question of making sure you have supplies for the week.  If the meals are planned, then you and she aren't faced with the "oh, darn, what should I fix for dinner?" at 5:30 pm dilemma.  Also, if the meal is planned, whoever is home first can get things started.  Does she have time for grocery shopping?  Can you help with that?

Make sure you have a lot of fruit and raw veggies to munch on when you get hungry -- perhaps having some fruit and veggies before dinner will decrease your appetite, and you won't feel like you need to eat as much.  Drink lots of water, lay off the sodas, and do an extra mile or two running in the morning. You can drop 10 lbs pretty quickly, if you stop making excuses.

  14. You can suggest that you want to learn how to cook and would love for her to show you how. Let her know how much you love her cooking and miss it. Good Luck. If that doesn't work try getting grilled chicken sandwiches no Mayo. Try salads instead of the fries.
