Question:

Ways to transfer approximately 4.6 gigs from one computer to another?

I have a program that I would like to send to my sister who is in another state, but she uses satellite internet, which has an FAP (Fair Access Policy) meaning she can only receive around 250 megabytes before her internet becomes as slow as dial-up or worse. The problem is the program weighs in around 4.6 gigs. I could break down the program and put bits of it onto a bunch of 800 megabyte discs, but I would prefer a second opinion before wasting a lot of time and energy. Thanks in advance!

  1. Found this just a short while ago. I use it for files other than images and video that I want people to see.

Alternatively you can buy a thumb drive that is 8GB in size, send it to her with the program on it, she can burn the data onto a disc, and she can send the thumb drive back to you. This is good if you don't want to impact her satint speeds and don't want to burn to several discs. Dual layer DVD-Rs are also a good option. You can also set up a VPN with her over the internet. This is a private computer network over the internet.

  2. Buy a memory stick - you can get an 8 gig one in Tescos for £13 and post that.  Or wal mart there .

  3. The easiest way is to use a flash or jump dive.  mail it to them when they send it back you will have a valuable tool you can use again and again

  4. You have 3 options as far as I can see.

    1. Burn the data onto a 4.7 GB DVD

    2. Cut the data up and put it on a 2 or 4GB thumb drive (Higher works too)

    3. Buy or borrow an external hard drive that you can use to transfer the data.

Also, I am curious, is it possible to compress the data any? That can help reduce the size and make your life easier. I will link to a good program for compressing files in the sources.

  5. Use a single DVD. Or, use a flash drive.
