  1. Rent a scooter.  It's so much fun.  And you will get to see so much more of the city.  You also won't need to worry about hills, as opposed to walking.

  2. Oh you are so lucky! I love San Francisco but the last time I was there was 15 or 20 years ago. There is so much to do. You will have so much fun. The bay is beautiful, the Golden Gate bridge is breathtaking so be sure to take your camera. Ride the cable cars, that is so much fun. There are some awesome museums in Golden Gate Park. Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf are the places for shopping and dining. There used to be an attraction there that would let you feel firsthand what a big earthquake is like. You can ride the cable cars and get off and on when you want, so it is easy to get around. I don't advise driving too much. The city has lots of very steep hills and can be very hard on your car.

It is expensive there but I think it is one of the most fun places to go for adults.

  3. check out Ocean beach, then the zoo its right there  then the Embarcadero lots to see there, ride a cable car  then maybe a tour of Alcatraz, take a walk up Lombard street or skate board down it Yikes! defiantly check out fisherman's wharf, and Ghirardelli square  but if your lady friend was 21 I'd say rent a car and go 40 mi. north to Napa and take a winery tour or two and take in the scenery and fer god sakes stay off a scooter in SF you'll get run over in a heartbeat that's some serious bad traffic!!!

  4. Go to jdvhotels.com. They have an entire section on what to do in SF that is fun and non-touristy. Lots of great suggestions from the locals.
