“We're going to have to win the Central," says Cleveland Indians’ closer Chris Perez
The Cleveland Indians’ closing pitcher Chris Perez thinks that his team possesses a potential capability to finish at top in the American League Central Division.
He has strongly raised his voice on his team’s potential capacity to achieve this honour which will make increase their chances of post season qualification as well.
“We're going to have to win the Central, The second wild card is coming out of the AL East. That's the superior division in our league. We've been in a dogfight all year," said Perez.
Perez added, “We did it last year and it didn't work when we traded for Ubaldo [Jimenez], I like what we have in-house, we just haven't played up to our potential. Justin Masterson is starting to get better. Ubaldo is throwing the ball better. Josh Tomlin had a nice start his last time out. Zach McAllister has really impressed me. We need to just keep being consistent."
At the moment, the Indians are at second position with 44-41 will-loss record along with .518 winning percentage in the AL Central behind Chicago White Sox.
Indians’ difference with the White Sox is not too big and if they open their second half of the season with strong performances, they can still finish on top of the AL Central.
White Sox on the other hand, are sitting comfortable at top position in the AL Central with 47-38 win-loss record along with .553 winning percentage.
Meanwhile, coming to Chris Perez and his conversation with media personals, many experts later stated in the media that this a healthy sign for the Indians itself as their senior players are feeling the utmost need of playing into post season for ultimate prize in baseball, the World Series title.
His personal form at the moment is also quite consistent as he finished the first half of the season achieving 3.34 ERA along with 24 saves, 35 strike-outs and 1.11 WHIP.
He has remained on his top form during the first half of the season and if things went well in the second half as well, he probably will see his team going into the post season.
