here in england we're paying what they called a council tax on a monthly basis.as defined:Council Tax is the system of local taxation used in England[1], Scotland[2] and Wales[3] to part fund the services provided by local government in each country. It was introduced in 1993 by the Local Government Finance Act 1992, as a successor to the unpopular Community Charge. The basis for the tax is residential property, with discounts for single and vulnerable people. As of 2008, the average annual levy on a property in England was £1,146.[4].this amount for a middle income earner like us is quiet heavy on the pocket and plus the fact that standard of living here in this southern part of England is expensive and tax deduction is quiet high.

i just like to know if you're paying this (council tax) as well in australia.if yes,how much?and what's th emode pf payment?thanks.

  1. We have a Land Tax. It is levied by the State governments (not council, not Commonwealth/Federal) based on the value of land that you hold. But there are exemptions - such as for a main residence. There are Council Rates, but they are not really taxes. Just an annual fee for things like garbage collection and the privelage of living in the Council area. It varies from area to area. I don't pay it because I rent. But for the owner it's much much less than what you're paying, and I am in inner city Sydney.
