We're looking way ahead in the future - http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Allan-Robert-Border-c43726 de Villiers - Cricket News Update
While the victory in the second ODI against England may have propelled the Proteas to become the first team in history to top in all formats of the game; however, their captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887 thinks that there is ‘still a lot to work on’ for the challenges
ahead.
Proteas topped the ICC T20Is rankings prior to the ongoing series, and reached the summit of Test cricket after sealing the Investec series last week at Lord’s. On Tuesday, they assumed the charge as the no.1 ODI team following a comfortable 80-run victory
over the hosts in Southampton.
The tourists’ innings was dominated by Hashim Amla’s belligerent 150 off 124 balls, who led his side to a dominating total of 288 on a relatively difficult batting track. In reply, the home side was bundled out for a meagre 207 in reply.
De Villiers however, seemed to be mildly impressed with the achievement and insisted that he is focused on the bigger assignments lying ahead, which includes the 2013 Champions Trophy in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and the World Cup in 2015.
"The No.1 thing is a bit of a bonus," de Villiers said. "We're happy about it, but it's not a main goal or a main concern at the moment.”
"I'm obviously very proud of it. It's a great achievement. We're looking way ahead in the future: we have a World Cup in 2015 and the Champions Trophy in 2013 coming up," the 28-year-old said.
Despite consistently remaining a top side, the Proteas has failed to win a major international event in its cricketing history. The 28-year-old skipper feels that the team is undergoing a development phase, with the main aim to look beyond the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 ranking
table.
"The ODI and T20 sides contain a lot of new faces and a new captain. There are a lot of things still to achieve. We certainly weren't working towards getting No.1 in ODIs in this series,” the captain said.
The third game of the five-match NatWest series will be played at the Oval on Friday.
