Question:

We're off to the Whitby Area - Recommended easy walks ....?

We're going for a week near Whitby in the North East. We plan several walks - Staithes, Runswick bay, Sandsend coastline, Pickering Railway, Bridestones and one or two waterfalls.... Also, I know photo opportunities exist in Whitby but always open to listen to others experience.

I have an OS map and a couple of books which I am going to read over the next 2 weeks before we go, but there is nothing like real-life feedback.

Any advice / feedback/ recomendations greatly received.

  1. Whitby is a truly beautiful scenic place. I'd recommend Falling Foss waterfall in the Maybeck Valley (a good 9 mile walk - well signposted). Also visit Goathland - home of Heartbeat tv programme. The Mallion Spout hotel at Goathland is a quaint oldy-worldy pub. Also Robin Hoods Bay is ideal if you have kids because of all the rockpools where they can catch crabs etc. Enjoy your week x

  2. you should do roseberry topping (spectacular views though quite steep) also you should go up to captain cooks monument. From these points there are great photo opportunites, i hope this answers your question and i would recommend you visit these places on your visit, have a good holiday

  3. the moors centre at danby is worth going to for info it's  @15 miles from whitby ..lots of ideas for walks there. thomasons fosse nr beck hole just outside of goathland is a nice walk too

  4. Robin Hoods Bay ..brill love it
