Hello,

We've just found a tiny newborn bird!

It's skin is transparent and has black hair only on his small wings and on his tail. We want to feed it, could you please help? What to feed to such a small bird?

  1. well this might sound gross but feed it mashed up worms that what the mother whould do !

    Good Luck

  2. I'd strongly suggest  that you try to find the nest it fell from and put it back. If you can't, try to locate a wildlife rehab and call for advice. Be aware that feeding it will be a very time consuming task, as well as keeping it warm enough. Unfortunately, it might die despite your very best efforts.

  3. Contact your local vet. With it being so small, your vet can suggest the right amount and form of food to feed it.

    Good luck,

    Tex

  4. Do not feed it anything.  If you keep it, it will die.

If the bird is a nestling, (bald, down or pin feathers) it belongs in a nest - that's the best place for it.  If you cannot locate the nest, please contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.

In the US, rehabilitation is regulated by the Federal government and State DNR depts. Services are free to the public, as all native wild birds are protected by federal law.

There are several sites with listing of rehabbers, although the easiest way to find one is to search Yahoo! or Google for "wildlife rehabilitation + your state (full and abbreviated)". Also search on "DNR rehabilitation + your state".

You may be able to find a contact for a nearby rehabber through your local humane society, animal shelter, or police department.

  5. If it is unfeathered...then look for a nest and if you can find it...replace it into the nest.  Do not worry about your scent being on the chick..birds have a very poorly developed sense of smell and will NOT reject a baby that has been touched.  If you cannot find a nest, get the bird to a local wildlife rehab for it's best chance of survival.  Also, keep in mind, it is illegal for you to try and raise this bird on your own.  Look for a rehab here:

  6. call the local vet!! don't try anything on your own if you aren't an expert on birds!! call now!!!!!!!!
