We're both heavily into ice skating (one hockey, one figure) and once the Millenium Park rink closes we don't know where to go that is easy enough to get to. Also suggestions of a good place to buy skates or get them sharpened would be great.

  1. I don't know the Chicago area, so I can't offer too much help. But here's a list of rinks in Chicago. You can look through them and see if there's one close by.

  2. Here are the three closest rinks to the Loop:

McFetridge Sports Center is on the Northside.  You would take the Brown line out to Addison and then hop a bus westward to California.  If you are driving, it's on California between Addison and Irving Park.  It's about a two block walk from there.  They have public sessions, classes, practice ice, and hockey leagues.

Another option would be Oak Park but they only run in the winter.  That is an easy ride on the Green line.  It's right off of Lake Street in Oak Park.

Last option I can give you is Robert Crown in Evanston.  It's on Main Street between Ridge and Dodge.  By public trans, you would take the Purple line to Main Street and then you would have to take a bus west to the rink about two miles.

For skates and sharpening, Rainbo Sports in Glenview is the place most skaters go to for figure skates in the area.  For hockey, go to Gunzos.  Neither is very to easy to get to by public trans but only about 20-30 mins by car from the Loop.

  3. hii=D there are a lot of ice rinks: http://chicago.citysearch.com/yellowpage... good luck!!!
