We just adopted out my cat's first litter, 10 week old kittens, yesterday evening. Since then, she's been producing an awful lot of milk, and today morning, i found 3 of her glands all full (her other 3 glands don't produce milk. And there wasn't any redness, i can just see veins, and the area feels hard. My cat's been nusing for 10 weeks, shoudn't her milk have dried up by now?

And there's another problem, we took our cat for her spaying session 2 weeks ago (her kittens were 8 weeks back then), but to our shock, we found out that she was pregnant again! It's our fault for letting her out, i know, but i had no idea that a cat could get pregnant even when STILL NURSING. The vets didn't want to go on, there were many risks involved. We let her be.

Now she misses her kittens, she'd been yowling the entire night yesterday, and to comfort her, we decided to bring back the last kitten of the bunch nurse till my cat gives birth again, and we thought this would help minimize the full glands, and put a stop to her stress from missing her kittens. She's quiet now. The kitten keeps going for one particular teat though, she's always been like that, now my cat's other two glands are still full. It still isn't working.

My question is, if we leave her milk to stay full, or to dry up, will her future kittens be able to nurse from her? Will the ducts get too hard for the new kittens to suckle on, or will the hormones work their way? Does the fact that she'll be having another litter make her keep producing milk, without stopping?

  1. yes they same thing happened to a stray cat my cousin took in and she was perfectly fine because  the milk stayed good  and she was fine it's like human  moms can only produce milk when the babies coming or when it's arrived its like she is storing up milk for the new babies

  2. Ok do NOT let the 10 week old kitten nurse from her!bring that kit back to his new home.even if the momma cat meows and meows. She needs the milk she has for her inborn babies.so it can fight disease on the kittens behalf. If you let the 10 week old kitten nurse her new born kittens will Not have the strength to eat and will most likely die.Trust me I have had this kind of dilemma before. And cats come into heat right after they have kittens so I you want to get her spayed you must keep her inside or locked up.A cats milk keeps filing up until they have their babies.but if that other kitten keeps drinking she will not have her new kittens get the newborn milk because the other one would of already drank it.Good luck with the litter coming up.

  3. You really are in a mess !

It is not going to help her by bringing back a kitten, Yes it will make her less upset but you need her milk to dry up !

I am sorry to hear that she is pregnant again, DO NOT let her out once she has had these kittens and keep her in till she has been spayed.

Looks like you...or should i say your cat has learnt the hard way!

You will have all this to go through again when the next kittens are born.

Lets hope her little body can cope with any litter so soon !!

  4. PLEASE get your cat spayed. She will live a much healthier and longer life.

  5. Even if the cat is PG.... PLEASE HAVE HER SPAYED.

    No more cats are needed...

Her milk has not dried up yet... that's all... if the kittens suckle it will continue... and she WILL get Pg AGAIN!
