  1. It is overkill on a marketing level, yes!! It gives some companies a good excuse to get on the bandwagon and label their products "green" or "enviormentally friendly" and then charge more for them. I'm all about doing my part to make the most of the resourses I have, recycling, conserving water etc... But I do not like all the hype about the Global Warming when they have yet to prove it and the Earth has not warmed in over 10 years and the data they are using does not include all the weather stations that have closed in the last 10 years many of which are any extremly inherantly cold climates. I'm just tired of companies raping my pocketbook because I want to do the right thing and make sure my grandkids and their kids and kids kids have a wonderful world to live in.

"In a stunning turn of events data (quietly) released by NASA shows that the 4 warmest years ever recorded occurred in the 1930's, with the warmest year on record being 1934 (not 1998). Lets see if Al Gore revises his road show." "NASA Revises Temperature Data - 1930's warmest on record!"

  2. It is obvious that we need a paradigm shift.  Small steps can be taken in nearly all aspects of life to reduce a person's impact.

As someone who works for industry as an environmental consultant, I know that many of the products you buy carry a portion of the cost to clean up bad environmental practices.  This also impacts your insurance rates.  The states and feds spend tax dollars to contain the pollution from land fills who have had their seals go bad.

It would be nice to think that everything we needed to do didn't have an impact.  And we should not stop doing everything to "go green".  The point of "green," I think, is to do what you need to, but do it with the total impact in mind.

To the extent that companies are trying to get into your pocket book with "green" marketing, that is annoying.  From that point, I totally answer "YES!"

  3. It's not overkill if aren't filling the landfills so fast.

A tin can on in your recycle bin today is a can back on the shelf within 60 days.  This is great progress in the recycling world.

  4. I don't thing it is overkill. I recycle as much as I can, and try to buy the green products.

BUT they need to be less expensive, and I do think that many corporations are running off with this idea just to attract more customers.

Buying green doesn't have to be a bad thing.

  5. I don't think so.  I'm trying my best at age 13 to do what I can. I'll be 14 tommorow (April 20), but anyway! I know what you're talking about. And I can see why you'd think that.  But it's not. Don't worry.

I think those new lipstick supplys from Canada are great! With the container made of seeds that you can bury once you're done with it, and make flowers instead of garbage! And the Tide fabric stuff in the 2x consentrated bottles.
