  1. Hello. I wouldn't reccomend staying in Loiza for vacation, going for a day trip is ok, but not staying there because its not a tourist area & it isn't the safest area. I saw the apartments & they are nice, but you will need to go to other towns to see all the sights. Its up to you. You should look at vacation rentals in San Juan(isla verde, condado, old san juan, ocean park) or in Dorado, Fajardo, Rincon, Ponce or the islands of Culebra, Vieques.. depending on what you want. These places are more geared towards tourists. In San Juan & in Dorado they have Embassy Suites, this is nice for a big family, but it will cost you around $200 per night. Otherwise check out these vacation rentals, Good luck:

  3. OOOOH you and your family are going to have so much fun! :) Puerto Rico is great--but you do need to know where to go and where to avoid. I agree with the other response and would not recommend staying in Loiza for a vacation with your family. San Juan is fantastic, but can be a bit busy for some who are looking to kick back on the beach. Perhaps somewhere just outside of San Juan that is close enough to travel to the city but quiet and peaceful enough that you feel at home would be a good compromise. When my sister came with her family of 4 to visit me here on the island she stayed in Embassy Suites Hotel in Dorado (north coast). They loved it! Dorado is a beautiful town on the north coast outside of San Juan (25-30 mins) that is very safe and much slower paced than San Juan.  It is within driving distance to Arecibo which has the world's largest radio satellite dish and the Caves of Camuy which has the world's 2nd largest underground river system (I'm pretty sure it's 2nd).

I'm not sure what kind of amenities you are looking for but the resort in Dorado was fantastic for my sisters family. It was on a beautiful golf course, next to the ocean, with several pools, a private beach and each individual room had a kitchenette area! Also in Dorado I noticed there are condos on that same golf course and I don't know anything about renting one, but they looked gorgeous. I think they run about $900ish a week for the whole condo.

Below are a few links that contain information about the hotel I mentioned before and the condos. I hope this was helpful. HAVE A WONDERFUL WONDERFUL TRIP! If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask!! BUENA SUERTE!!

  4. The Westin is nice, but is very expensive.  They have condos/apts there that are rented out short-term.  This location is rather isolated, but it is near the rainforest.

You can check for rentals at HomeAway.com.

  5. The international hotel in san juan is really beautiful and its right on the beach and the pool is beautiful. Its in san juan and its safe, there are also some beautiful villas in Humacao, at the Palmas hotel, and its also right on the beach. Its also extremely safe.

  6. The hotel called Condado Beach Hotel is very nice, but kind of pricey. I just got back from there.

  7. There are a several places that are safe and fun for the whole family. If you like the country you can stay at Hacienda El Jibarito in San Sebastian. Their web site is www.haciendaeljibarito.com. It is a new concept of mixing the luxuries of a hotel with all the things of the country. I was there a few months ago and in thier restaurant the waiters and waitresses dress in old country style clothing. There is horse back riding, the kids can ride the cart around their farm, there is a swimming pool and much more. Check out their site. This town is like 2 hours from San Juan but it is beautiful. Now if you want to be closer to San Juan but be in a nice peaceful place in the country then there is Treasure Island Hotel in the beautiful town of the Eterna Primavera or Eternal Spring of Cidra. which is only an hour from San Juan and the town is small, beautiful and the Treasure Island Hotel is beautiful also. I lived in Cidra and the town is quiet. People there are courteous and nice. You can check out the virtual tour of the Hotel at www.luxordreamsolutions.com or Hotel Treasure Island at 360Puerto Rico.com or call 1-787-714-0808 it is on Road 173 at the Lago de Cidra or Cidra Lake in Cidra.

This is just a few suggestions because the Hotels in the San Juan/Loiza area are always busy, some are noisy and most of them have casinso which makes the rooms more expensive where the places I mentioned do not have casinos. By the Hotel in Cidra, there are stores, bakeries, restaurants.

Hope you have a wonderful stay.

  8. You'd be well advised to stay away from Loiza.  That's where Ivan Calderon, the White Sox player was murdered.  It's a dangerous place.

Puerto Rico is a dangerous place to live.  I did it for 3 years, but ultimately the crime has gotten out of control.  More people have been murdered in Puerto Rico in the past 5 years, than there have been US Soldiers killed in Iraq.

  9. Definatley would not stay in Loiza thats like the Ghetto but you cold stay in Ponce or San Juan they are like a hour or 2 apart

Ponce is farthest south and San Juan fartherst north and more populated with american tourist

  10. Loiza is not a nice place to stay for vacation. You and your love ones should stay in Rincon. It has the most beautiful beaches and it is a family oriented town. I recommend Angelo's car rental at 787-823-3438. Have a good time!
