Our paperwork has been in the office of PGN for 4 months & all they are supposed to do is check forms & issue our pink slips and the new birth certificates. Why is it taking so long - does anyone know anything about this?

  1. I think you should go directly to the orphanage and complain. It could be that they used you for your papers

  2. Congratulations!  We picked our 3 year old son up in Guatemala last year.  Waiting in PGN is HORRIBLE!  I remember it well.  Then once we got out of PGN we ended up having to wait 3 weeks for our PINK slip!!  ARG!!  With adoption it's "hurry up and wait, hurry up and wait".  But once we got to Guatemala for the pick up trip, everything went so smoothly.  I kept waiting for something to go wrong!  It didn't!  Hang in there.  Each adoption is different, just like each pregnancy and each delivery.  And just like giving birth...once they put the child in your arms, you start to forget about all the "pains".  I'm already trying to talk my husband into doing it again!

The orphanage has NOTHING to do with PGN.  And calling PGN (if you even could get through to them) would be a waste of time.  You'd never get to the person that actually has your case...there'd be NO WAY!  There are a zillion cases going on at the same time down there.  Calling down there and asking them to search for the guy with YOUR case would probably just tick them off.  Trust me on that one.

The truth is, there's not much you can do to hurry up your adoption.  It's frustrating, but true.  You'll get the call when you least expect it.  I was at Arby's drinking a cup of coffee with my husband when my cell phone rang and my agency director told me we were OUT OF PGN!!  I think the entire restaurant thought I had gone nuts!!

Congratulations once again.  And rest up, you're going to be REALLY BUSY pretty soon with those two precious girls.

  3. Contact PGN directly and ask what the delay is.  It would be helpful if the attorney that is assisting you with the adoption contacted them directly, as they seem to pay more attention when an official calls.  You can also try to hire a local notary public that can go to PGN and try to expedite your documents.

Congratulations on your adoption.  I wish you and your new family the best.

  4. I will tell you why:

There had been a lot of problems here in Guatemala with adoptions, because some mean people were taking out of the country  in the past kids full of drugs inside, others were selling kids for extracting their organs, others where kinapping kids to sell them, and now they have to protect kids against all these and they have to fill a lot of forms and procedures in order to secure the children.

They have to make ADN proofs to the parents, checking if they are the biological parents of the kids, because sometimes as I told you before kids were kidnapped to their mothers to sell them.

But do not get desperate, try to think that is is on behalf ot kids protection not to bother you.

By the way, congratulations for your adoptions!!!
