This is Russia attempting to re-establish it's sphere of influence. If we intervene militarily, there will be a high risk of escalation. We are, most likely, going to focus on containing Russia and attempting to retain the territorial integrity of Georgia.

There is no war in Iraq.  As i understood, Americans troops is extending their stay there to protects its interest and to help  the still inadequate Iraqi Govt forces quell violence in their midst.

Unless no restraints from both sides,  there's a big possibility for an all out war but it defends on the US and NATO considering that Georgia was among those (the 3rd largest) countries  who had helped them in Iraq. In my opinion Russia has a deep seated anger on Georgia being a democratic country on its border and trying to have (or have) close ties with the US. Probably, they (Russian) prefer a Georgian president who is beholden to them.  Poor US, this great country is in on the spotlight again...but who have the gall to rescue a sovereign country like Georgia from trouble? The UN? The British? or leave Georgia to the Russians?

I doubt well get too involved with it.. im not a history man so i dont know details about either country. I try to watch the news as it comes but a lot of it is lies and propoganda. so unless you know your history (the truth) your pretty much under a blanket.

We are not at war with Iraq. We are fighting a bunch of well armed street gangs in Iraq. We are not at war with Afganistan either. Russia is occupying some of Georgia, but that's not really war either.

none Putin is evil but smart he wont push all the way. Bush is a wild card but Cheney another evil smart guy will rein him in because haliburton profits wont mean jack in a nuclear winter
