We are disappointed, but learning: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DL-Vettori-c1384 – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 spinner Daniel Vettori has stated that while his side are disappointed regarding their recent performances in the warm-up match against the West Indies Cricket Board President's XI, they are lucky to be able to get the chance to learn in the
conditions they will be playing the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 in during their upcoming Test series.
"I think we were pretty lucky to play close to the wicket that we're going to play on in the test match," Vettori said.
"If we can't learn stuff from this game then we never will. So I think, whilst we are disappointed with the position we are in, there's been some really good things today ... and I think we're learning a lot as we go along."
The Kiwis ongoing tour of the United States and West Indies has been far from ideal, with the limited-overs leg of the tour having ended in two consecutive series defeats. The T20I series played in Florida culminated in a 0-2 defeat, while the ODIs resulted
in a 1-4 loss for the Kiwis.
With an upcoming 2-match Test series, scheduled to begin on July 25, the tourists have a last chance to salvage their pride, and secure a series win in at least one format. The Black Caps were dubbed undercooked as they went into their series against the
Windies, and their limited-overs defeats were also attributed to lack of match practice - they last played an international series in March this year, and underwent no preparatory camps or warm-up matches prior to the tour.
However, the Test series is preceded by a warm-up match, currently being played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua (the same ground where the first Test will be played), which affords the Kiwis the perfect chance to get used to the
conditions, and familiarise themselves with the pitch they will be playing on later.
The match has not been going in the tourists' favour thus far, with the visitors having succumbed, all out, at a meagre 149 on the first day, owing to assaults by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Veerasammy-Permaul-c94981 (22.4-12-34-3). The highest score was Kane Williamson’s
55.
The second day saw the Windies powering ahead owing to a century by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/N-Deonarine-c2051 (106), and posting a total of 299, although there were some promising performances in the form of Vettori, who claimed 4 for 48 at an economy rate of 2.40, while Neil
Wagner took 2 for 50.
The third and final day of the match is due to be played out to day, on July 22.
