Just need to understand whether it is worth taking them as we have a large no of games - If the consoles don't work would the games playon Canadian machines? Is there something available to convert the voltage?

  1. Depends on where you are coming from (which region the console was made for).

If your console is from the North American region, then it will work fine as is in Canada, no converters needed.

If you're coming in from Europe, Asia/Oceania, or any other Continent for that matter, then you can buy a converter (in an electronics store in your own country, don't wait till you get to Canada).

The problem with that is that you will only be able to play games from your own region (continent area), and if you buy console games in Canada, they will likely not even work on your console. So if you really want to continue buying more, either purchase them online from your region to have them delivered to you, or buy a North American console when you get here.

This, at least, applies to consoles up to PS2...I'm not sure about Wii or PS3, but I'm thinking the same applies.
