Ok... we live in a 1.5 story home and are getting ready to finish the upstairs. We have no perment flooring installed yet and when someone is up stair walking on the plywood it is SO LOUD.. (we plan on putting 2 kids upstairs) Can anyone tell me how to help sound proof the upstairs floor. We plan on using carpet with a thick pad but there has to be more we can do. Anyone have any suggestions?

  1. I have filled the gap betw the bottom plasterboard and the top planks with that yellow proofing foam you just spray in and it then goes kind of solid.

It's great as I just had to drill a small hole and it then got "pumped in".

I did the whole house. The benefits are plenty. When I shut the windows it's like a thooomp from a vacuum. The rooms are ermetically sealed.

  2. The only other thing that could have been done wash the put insullation under the floor. You could drill some small holes and spray expanding foam in it to insullate between the upstairs floor and the downstairs ceiling. Other than that the carpet and a very high quality(the best)pad will have to do.

  3. I would recommend try and fix the noisy floor.  Find as many of the squeeks and nail them down.  Replace some of the flooring if need be.

    Good Luck

  4. insulate with sound proof batting. it's not great, but it helps.
