We are focused on Eredivisie, says http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar’s Gertjan Verbeek – UEFA Europa League news
AZ Alkmaar boss, Gertjan Verbeek, has stressed prior to their UEFA Europa League fixture against Malmo FF that his side's prime objective is to lift the Eredivisie title this campaign.
The Alkmaar outfit will lock horns against the Swedish outfit in the Group F encounter of Europe’s secondary club competition at Swedbank Stadion on Wednesday, November 30.
Although the outfit from Alkmaar have a bright chance of progressing through to the next phase of the competition, the Dutch mentor has openly revealed that his side’s focus is on winning the league title this season.
The 49-year-old tactician has admitted that his side is unlikely to succeed challenges in the knock-out phase, as teams from UEFA Champions League such as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186, Olympique Lyon and even the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City would be joining
them in the next round.
“Soon the Champions League team will flow in the competition. For us, it is very difficult to reach the final. We are focused mainly on the Premier League. The club is good to go for an extra round of the Europa League, maybe two. You never know”, Verbeek
said while talking to the media.
When asked about his side’s upcoming encounter, the Dutch trainer confidently replied that he is only looking at his own team and urged his troops to dominate proceedings away from home.
“I want us to dominate and control the game. In the previous games I talked about it, but we did not hold a lead. At Malmo, I hope this tactic can ensure the three points. What team will Malmo play? Not a clue. And it does not interest me. I am only looking
at AZ”, Verbeek concluded.
AZ have thus far performed highly in the Europe’s second tier competition. Occupying the second spot in the Group F, they are only a solitary point behind the first placed Metalist Kharkiv.
Verbeek would be hoping that his troops achieve a good result in their upcoming Europa League fixture against the Swedish outfit and book their ticket to play in the Round of 32.
