travellers cheques if its a big amount. Take some dollar with you aswell. If you lose the travellers cheques you can get them back the next day through insurance.

In the US, banks usually charge you a fee to convert traveller's cheques to cash, unless you hold an account with that bank.  They also charge you a big fee to convert money from foreign currency.  Accordingly, I usually bring 75% cash and 25% traveller's cheques...but that's just me.
