We are unsure of whether to go to Auckland or Wellington? Any ideas. We like to see all the sights and do all the touristy stuff? What do you reccomend? Thanks

  1. I've been to both places and I definetley prefer Wellington. Its a very pretty city, culturally rich, great weather, safe, clean and does not have massive industrial sky high buildings like Auckland does. You can walk from one side of Wellington to another in about 30mins. I Auckland it can take longer than an hour and a half drive because of the traffic and busyness.

  2. I agree with Nell - Rotorua is the place to go. Both Auckland and Wellington have interesting places but Rotorua is unique.

You could fly into Auckland and maybe hire a car or take a bus (depending on your finances) and it is only about 3 hours to Rotorua.

  3. depending on how long your going for it doesnt take to long to drive from auckland to wellington and if you wont so see all the sights and stuff book a flight into auckland and then travell down to wellington and get a flight home its an awsome place to visit but u wont see many awsome sights in the citys make sure you travell country u'll never get bored of the senary

  4. I Was Born, And Live In Auckland. I Would Suggest Coming Here Because It Has A Lot More Tourist Attractions Than Wellington. There's The SkyTower, Harbour Bridge - Both Of Which You Can Bungy Jump From (A New Zealander Invented Bungy Jumping) And There Are Many Shopping Destinations. If You Go To The North Shore Which Is Where I Live And Go To The Beaches You Will See A Volcano Right In The Middle Of The Sea Called Rangitoto. It's A Beautiful Sight.

Hope You Have Fun In NZ... It's Not All About Sheep.

  5. Auckland!

Wellington is a hole,Auckland has everything Wellington has + More. The only nice thing about Wellington is an amazing mueseum called Te Papa all ages love it ! but you can only visit it so many times cant you?Auckland has many beaches [white and black sand],Many tourist attractions, Many Islands You can Day Trip to and also of course it has the sky tower.

  6. why not both?  I say Wellington.  It has Te Papa museum, cable cars, the beehive, Weka, it's a nice environment and easy to walk around.

  7. In any case, you will land in Auckland.  so why not spend some time wondering around the city before you head south.

Hire a car if you drive.

  8. I would say Wellie. It is compact and has good night life, is easy to get around and has good shopping and museums. The music scene there is v good, go to Cuba Street for the "alternative" shopping, eating and socialising society. It can be a bit rough late at night, watch where you go on a Fri and Sat nights, but nearly all you meet are cool and affable. Got a spare ticket for me?

  9. Those who are saying Wellington is a hole, are CLEARLY blind. I've never been to Auckland and I never want to.

Wellington is definitely where you should go.

But you could start in Auckland and catch a train down. Or a bus and stop at different places.

I think you should go to the South Island. Especially if you want to see the beautiful sites like this one. My auntie took this while we were in Milford Sound.

  10. You will probably fly into Auckland, so start there. But please do not just visit Auckland, it is a city much like any other coastal city, beaches and buildings. To see the country properly you need to get out of Auckland. Pick up a Lonely Planet book on New Zealand, and do your research.

  11. Here's an answer to a Q I've previously asked.  It may help.

    Have a nice time.

  12. To see all of New Zealand take a train trip it`s great

Theyeven slow down for you to take senic photos

    whats wrong with that!!!

  13. it all depends on how long you will be in nz for, but if your wanting to see the north and south island then auckland would be a better starting point.some musts would be to travel up to the bay of islands, maybe do a ferry trip, also a day trip to waiheke island, most people like to see the skytower and maybe the akl museum, further south rotorua and taupo, then onto wellington before travelling to the south island which has amazing scenery where queenstown is a must see, you could try www.tourism.net.nz which has lots of ideas to plan your holiday

  14. We went to Auckland a couple of years ago.   Auckland is pretty good, Observation Tower is a good visit.  Maori Museum brilliant.   There are lots of lovely interesting things to see and do on the island.   Rotarua (not sure I have spelt that right? is a MUST,  the hotsprings, the guizers,  there is also a some caves that have glow worm in, fabulous!

The Beaches are many, loads of good walks, golf courses, the locals are pleasant, nothing too much trouble in the resturants and eating places.  Go for it, have a lovely time, I would not hesitate in going again, but perhaps it would be a good idea to visit your library, gets some books, work out an itenary.     Wish I could go again, have you any space in your suitcase???

  15. people keep saying that wellington is a hole!:(

    It's not!!

It's the capital of new zealand! There are many awesome things to do!

The museum "Te Papa" takes days to get get around, if you want to see everything!

It has so many levels and is rich with new zealand culture, as well as many other cultures and fun things to do!

It has cafe's and all sorts of stuff!! like rides, shops, special exhibitions-It seriously takes more than a day to go around that whole place!

    lol!

p.s. hAvE A GoOd tImE! i welcome you to our country!:)

  16. Hi, there are so many cool things to see in NZ - I'd recommend seeing a bit more than just one city. A week would give you the chance to hire a car and do a bit of a road trip. Auckland, Rotorua, Taupo and Wellington are all worth a visit and offer a range of NZ experiences.

In Auckland a trip on the ferry out to Waiheke is awesome, then I'd hire a car and drive south to Rotorua for thermal action and cultural displays - try and get out to the big lakes nearby (Tarawera etc). Then drive south to Wellington via Taupo (the biggest lake in the country). Wellington has a cool range of bars, cafes, muesems etc. I'd then fly back to Auckland (assuming that's where your flight leaves from). www.houseoftravel.co.nz will list all the flights and the best prices

Otherwise... if you'd like to see some amazing NZ sites I'd travel to Christchurch in the south island and do a road trip across to the Fox glacier on the west coast.

    Have an awesome time!

  17. have a good time!

  18. auckland, wellington is more of a hole lol

  19. I would say neither. Go to Rotorua its got everything a tourist would like to see as well as the zorb, white water rafting, luge, bungy. Its got the lot.
