  1. I travel to Uganda quite a lot and normally take US Dollars, but with the exchange rates changing so much I'd probably currently take a mix of dollars and British pounds.  If you can find the local exchange rates somewhere that you are likely to get in Nigeria, then you can work out if its worth exchanging to dollars first, but I reckon just taking lots of pounds would be better.

Also, make sure you have large denomination notes, and new notes.

  2. Just take sterling with you, don't bother trying to change to dollars or anything like that.  You would lose twice on the exchange rate.

Nigeria has extremely close ties to the UK and you can change pounds with no problem in the major cities.

Don't use credit cards, there are problems with identity theft.

  3. Cash in USD banknotes. You may be asked to fill in a currency declaration note at the customs. Try to avoid it, since it will be an open invitation for trouble.

But if you have to, declare a very minimum amount.

If you bring OUT more than USD 5,000 you will have to justify the declaration of currency at entry. I guess this is unlikely to happen.

  4. Cash is the only way. On arrival have all your cash on you not in your luggage. Distribute it between all of you. Keep it in diffrent pockets and bags.

Take US$ this will be accepted everywhere. Africa is still not completely relaxed about €/GBP.

  5. cash. not many atm machines in nigeria. just be careful. ur money could easily be stolen or even taken by d airport security pple.
