we have 100 amp service fuses. Is this ok to be done and do we have to notify Energy Australia and get them to check it out?

  1. I don't know about Australia but as a general rule for electrical safety I new load any circuit above 80% of what the max rating is. An 80 amp circuit on a 100 amp panel may need more evaluation. I would get a second opinion.

  2. The Main switch should be a circuit breaker also, its there to protect your consumer mains witch is the main cable that supplies the property. The Electrician in charge needs to submit a Certificate Of Electrical Safety as its not a same for same installation and is upgrading the switch then book an Electrical Inspector also who needs to complete the form, The certificate will state the installation will comply to current regulations and both electrician and Electrical Inspector need to sign it to be a valid document. I am sure the Electrician in charge of you job is fully competent and knows whats going on . Energy Australia are only Retailers for the power you use , I think communication between you both will solve the issue. Best Of Luck.
