We are about to have a little girl. everytime we watch the news we see countless stories about kids being abducted, molested and kids beating and killing other kids. It makes us fear for our children and consider extreme measure like home school and possibly building a moat. should i stop watching tv for now?

  1. I feel the same way! Im like do i watch so im aware of the terror out there or just be niave.. So i read the news briefly so im up to date n try not to dwell on it..

  2. Turning off the news won't change the fact that it happens. The best you can do is when she's old enough teach her what she needs to know to keep herself safe. I know the whole don't talk to strangers bit my parents drilled it into my head, do the same. If it helps for now don't watch things like that if it's going to upset you, that is not what you need right now.

  3. Yep, I felt the exact same way when pg, so I did stop watching it on the most part, I will watch it from time to time to keep updates on what's going on in the world etc but bugger me if I can sit and watch yet another psycho child abuser, rapist or murderer going to court or what not.

I still purposely change channels when stuff like that comes on (my 1st daughter is now 5½yrs old and 2nd one is 3yrs old lol) , I will listen to main facts but switch over and not listen to the whole thing which is just the in between details of the story.

  4. This is why I don't watch the news. If I need to know the weather I simply look it up online. You don't have to stop watching TV altogether if you don't want. Just avoid shows that don't make you feel comfortable.

  5. My ex is a cop and would come home with HORRIFIC stories when I was pregnant with my first and the news did not ease my fears.  I will tell you this, I am THANKFUL that I learned of those awful things that could happen to my children.  It taught me to be aware of where my children are (physically and emotionally), it taught me to watch my children closely and to not take anything for granted.  At first, I too, wanted to build a mote, hire snipers to sit on my roof and declare war on anybody who could possibly be a threat.  Then I realized that that was no way for my children to live (not to mention the city wouldn't give me permits for the mote..lol)!  I may be strict in some peoples eyes, but my kids are safe!!

  6. I read somewhere, that if a TV show, movie, or in your case the news, makes you anxious or nervous, that you should stop watching it. The un-needed stress isn't good for the baby, or you.
