I don't know about being "a good person" but he was a gifted military leader. He exploited the disarray of the Greek-City states, kept moving on to Egypt and conquering most of what is now the Middle East. He spread Greek culture, but also encouraged the integration of ideas and cultures of the conquered peoples. He encouraged his soldiers to intermarry.
