We are looking forward to a very tough series- Hafeez – Cricket News Update
Pakistan’s newly appointed Twenty20 skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Hafeez-c76898, believes that their upcoming series against their Asian rivals, Sri Lanka, will be a tough one as the Islanders are formidable on their home soil.
"We all know that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 is always good on their own soil and we are looking forward to a very tough series," said Hafeez after arriving in Sri Lanka.
The 30-year-old veteran is eager to impress the selectors with his leadership abilities, and aims to give his best through his all-round performances, while ensuring that his side starts the tour on a winning note.
The Men in Green however, have an advantage over the opposition after knocking them down in recent encounters, including a host series in UAE last year, and the Asia Cup 2012, where Pakistan eventually emerged winners by beating http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in the final.
"We have experience playing them in the recent past and had good success against them," he said.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and Sri Lanka have played in 70-ODI series in total, where the latter has dominated with 43 victories. While in Tests, the Green Shirts have won 8 out of 16, drawing 4.
Green Shirts have gone through stringent preparations for the forthcoming series, and have participated in several training and practice sessions arranged by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) prior to their departure to Sri Lanka.
"I personally feel the boys have worked really hard in the last one and a half months. Although we were not playing any international cricket (recently) some of the guys were doing their own training and the PCB arranged some matches for us to get match
practice,” added the off-spinner.
This will be Hafeez’s first series as the T20 skipper, while he has also been elevated to vice-captaining the side in the other two versions. He made his international debut almost nine years ago, and has played 26 Test matches, 99 ODIs and 29 Twenty20s
at an average of 36.53, 27.71 and 20.44 respectively.
His crucial contributions towards his side's campaign last year ensured a permanent place for him in the roster for each format of the game.
