  1. Well baby food, your average grocery ...

Probably about $60 - $90 a fortnight (if your family arebig eaters!)

Er - you'll also need warm clothes - most winters it snows in Melbourne! Well, I may be exaggerating there a little bit - but it is cold!

You will enjoy Melbourne a lot (I live in NSW).

  2. in perth i'd say $70 a week, and we're more expensive. so under 70 i'd say. fruit & veg are muchmuchmuch cheaper from markets and green grocers and you know they're fresh (unlike woolworths and such) so thats an easy way to lower the cost

  3. it really depends on where you shop. if you go the the fresh produce markets and the cut-price supermarkets you could probably budget under $100 a week, including non food items. however, if you shop at the upmarket supermarkets and enjoy gourmet food then you could easily spend $250+

  4. Naturally it depends on what you eat, but here's a tip: if you do move here, shop at the vic market.  Get there late morning/early afternoon, and they're practically giving food away (boxes of oranges for a few $, beautiful steak for about $10 a kilo, etc).

  5. To whoever said it snows in Melbourne, yes, you are exaggerating. It is very cold and is rainy and grey and depressing in winter so rug up. Food costs, well put it this way: If you live around Toorak, south yarra, richmond, prahran, south melbourne/albert park, etc (inner city basically), then expect to pay up - but then again, they're just expensive inner-city areas to dont expect any aspect of life's commodities to be necessarily "cheap". It's not as though you'll struggle, just dont get a job earning you $30,000 and expect to live comfortable in these areas. The cost of food and just general living naturally gets more and more affordable the further out from melb you go, more so in the western side (undesirable - this is not up for negotiation). Trendy areas in the east like Hawthorn, glenferrie, camberwell, chatham, even blackburn are quite costly and you will find a marked difference in cost of living price, but talking specifically about food if you stick to supermarkets for your shopping rather than going to bakeries then butchers then green grocers etc etc to feed your family then you should be ok.

Beware - cost of living is rising in Melbourne and in general Australia, but you should be fine if you're supported with a good job, of which there are plenty. Good luck

  6. under $100

in my family we have six people and it's $300-$400 a week....and my dad and older brother don't stop eating

    hope i helped :)
