We are looking to move to the Charlotte area and may want to build our own house,can i be my own contractor?

My brother built his own house with out having a licence in dare county .is that state wide or county to county? i have alot of freinds that are in the constuction trade and can build with there help.

Yes, you can.  But unless you know what you're doing, you're in for big headaches.  You become the de facto general contractor and have to coordinate all subcontractors, deal with permits, inspections, etc.
