We are lucky to have Ricky Ponting in Tests, says Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377, in limited-overs cricket but feels that every player has a certain age to play in all the formats of the game and his side must
move forward.
The 37-year-old is considered to be one of the best batsmen produced by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup in 2011.
The right-handed batsman still plays Test cricket for his country and has been doing quite brilliantly of late. The cricketer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 however, struggled in this year’s triangular series at home and announced his retirement from 50-over cricket
as a result.
The Kangaroos are currently in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 where they will play a five-match ODI series, which will commence from June 29th at the Lord’s.
Clarke feels that it is a pity that the great batsman is not in the squad anymore but understands that every international player has to go sooner or later.
The middle-order batsman expressed, "We all get older unfortunately, and there comes a time where you are not selected in teams any longer. He's been such a great player for such a long period of time. Any team would miss Ricky Ponting, and we are
no different.”
With more than 27 thousand runs in international sport and 71 centuries, Ponting is one of the modern-greats and arguably one of the best batsmen of the current era. On top of that, he is the only captain along with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clive-Hubert-Lloyd-c51327 to have won two World
Cups.
The Aussie skipper thinks that he is lucky to have Ponting playing in the longer version of the sport and hopes that his predecessor will be able to play till the next Ashes, which will be held in England next year.
"Fortunately for us http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ricardo-Gouveia-c84824 is still playing Test cricket and is a big part of our Test team - and next time we are here for the Ashes, I'm hoping he will be here with us,” he added.
