We are not going to miss Chris Gayle, says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ottis-Delroy-Gibson-c80358 - Cricket News Update
The West Indies coach, Ottis Gibson, has explicitly maintained that the Windies will not miss their former captain and a hard-hitting top order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221, during their tour of Bangladesh.
The 42-year-old former West Indies pacer said that they are building up a team around the young Caribbean talent and will not miss Gayle, who is currently busy with the IPL side, Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Champions League
Twenty20 tournament, being held in India.
"We are not going to miss him because he is not here," the coach told a news conference.
Gibson’s comments have come in the wake of questions raised by Chris Gayle over his treatment by the coach and the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board. Gayle has been at loggerheads with the West Indies Cricket Board since the quarter-final
exit of Caribbean side from the 2011 http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup earlier this year.
Subsequently, he was overlooked for the home series against Pakistan. Following the surprise exclusion from the Windies squad for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 to
participate in the 2011 season of the lucrative league. Since then, he has not been picked by the WICB selectors for any national assignment, home and away.
Gayle, who has played 91 Tests for West Indies compiling up 6373 runs at an average of 41.65 including two triple centuries, has time and again expressed his desire of playing for the national side but the WICB selectors and the coach
are continuously overlooking him for national duty.
Gibson said that they need contribution from senior Windies players but from those only who are committed to play for the national side.
"Some people will think we need him. We believe we are building a team. Of course, like I said, we need senior players that are committed to mix with the youngsters and guide the youngsters," added Gibson.
The West Indies cricket team, under Darren Sammy’s captaincy reached http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 on Tuesday to play a Twenty20, three one-day internationals and two tests against the Bengali Tigers. Windies will open their tour officially with a T20
on October 11.
