We are not going to use UDRS in any bilateral series - N Srinivasan
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has once again ruled out any possibility of using the controversial Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS) in its Test matches. The board also rejected the offer to have a tour of Australia to see the successful application
of the review system in the ongoing Ashes series between Australia and England.
The call to use the electronic devices in matches to reduce umpiring errors has been growing but the BCCI and its player are adamant that the ball-tracking device is not fool proof.
India has played three Test series in the recent past, against Australia, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 and the ongoing series against South Africa, and has not used the referral system in any of the series. All the three oppositions were fervent to have the technology in
the series but failed to convince BCCI.
N Srinivasan, the secretary of Board of Control for Cricket in India reiterated that there was no real chance that the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 cricket board will change its stance over the UDRS.
"We don't accept this technology. We are not going to use it in any bilateral series," said Srinivasan in a telephonic interview with a world’s leading news agency.
Srinivasan also revealed in the interview that they were offered to travel to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 to see the application of Umpire Decision Review System for the first time in Ashes series.
"Yes, they were supposed to take us to see its use in the Ashes series but I did not go. We have made our presentation to the ICC, saying we are just not convinced about the technology," Srinivasan said.
When asked whether it is the expensive technology making BCCI reluctant in using the review system, the BCCI secretary said that the board and players have got serious doubts about the accuracy of system.
The technology will be used in the next month’s 50-over Cricket World Cup that would be jointly hosted by three subcontinent nations – India, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 – and the BCCI has no issues with it as Srinivasan said: "Well, World Cup is an ICC event
and if ICC decided to use it, they obviously can."
South Africa was keen to use the UDRS in the ongoing home Test series against India but the Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 failed to convince BCCI and this had irritated the Proteas skipper Graeme Smith. The irritated South Africa captain said that the ICC should
take the responsibility of introducing review system in a Test series and urged the apex body to make it mandatory for the boards to use the technology in their bilateral Test series.
