  1. Depends. If you can replace your water heater with a tankless system - I suggest gas (lp or propane). If you have to replace with a tank style heater - I suggest the most energy efficient one you can afford. Or you could convert to solar powered water heater, but that is a whole different subject.gl

  2. Neither are good for our environment. Have you heard about solar energy.Electricity from hydroelectric dams is alright but only if you can find a fast flowing river.

  3. where do you live? i worked in a place where we got 110 degree water from the sun. I will tell you how to save money if you want? i want to save you money.

  4. Get a solar heater a tank less electric for when the sun don't shine

  5. Why not use a solar water heater on the roof? No big gas OR electric bills!

If you MUST, replace the tank with a tankless system. It's more efficient regardless of how it's fuelled.

  6. Get a waterless gas ,that way you don't heat a big tank for nothing.

  7. Electric

  8. In the northeast, gas is the cheaper alternative and is more efficient for a water heater. It isn't clear if that will change over time as more people use gas.  If you have a hot water heating system it is most efficient to make the hot water tank integral to the that system as opposed to separate.

  9. Gas will get scarcer and scarcer.  Electricity can come from a number of passive sources like wind and water .  Electricity might cost more now but in the future it will seem like a cheap investment.  I would recommend a tankless heater
