When I lived in Florence, I recall seeing at least a few vendors out by S. Lorenzo every day...even some holidays...it is huge business for them to stay open on weekends due to the flood of tourists. But if you are really looking for much better quality, at a higher, but still negotiable price, you might try the leather school behind the Basilica of Santa Croce (also a lot of small shops around it)...at Piazza Santa Croce.

Well I used to live in Florence for 3 years, and the san lorenzo market was always the perfect place to go on sunday, when many other shops were closed. The same would apply mid August, when many shops close for the holidays. As far as i know, it is and was open every day until approx 5 pm. Last time i was in Florence, early spring, this was still the case. It is one of the main tourist attraction/shopping places, so little chance that they'd wanna change that, i would say.

Most traders will be operating,  Some may be a little later opening on Sunday.

I love the Leather Markets in Florence they are open everyday I would go in the mornings.Sundays are mot the best days to go because most people go to Church. I live in Italy and go to them often. There are tips that most tourists dont know. The Market is called San Lorenzo. You can bargin with the people and usually if you see stuff on the carts in the market most of them have stores behind the market and they will give you better deal and you can use credit cards if needed. They all speak English and just ask them if they have a store and they will take you to it. Also if you need hemming done on a coat for example they will do it too. At the end of the market there is this big building and you can go in there they have also fruit, veggies, wines, and meat. They usually have lots of free samples.

If you mean the Mercato di San Lorenzo (that's not only leather market) it's closed on both days of Sunday and Monday. However in the city (Santa Croce Church's area) you'll find really a lot of opportunities to buy objects in leather at the leather's shops.

Probably will be not so cheap like at the market but generally their quality is widely better. I'm working in the leather sector and you should beware of buying leather at a too low price ; leather is by itself rather expensive and when it's too cheap it means is not made in Italy. I guess it's a nonsense you come to Italy and you buy here a made in China leather object !!

OPENING TIME 8 am till 8 pm from monday to saturday.

If you go there on sunday/monday you'll find just unlawful vendors selling just copies of top brands products.Be careful that buying from them is not legal and if you're catched by the police you  will be claimed to pay a huge penalty. Beware of  buying illegally and ask yr hotel for more info on this fact , not that known by mostly of tourists.
