I am having a difficult time with ADT. We are renting a house and the prior tennant(from 3 years ago) had an ADT system put in due to the house being broken into. The CURRENT Owner, isn't the account holder with ADT. They won't tell me who's name is on the account so i can tell the real estate agent for contact. They also told me that i COULDN'T cut the power to the system.

B.S.!!!

First of all, the DSL on my computer is constantly setting the alarm off, i have disconnected the phone line from the unit and now it beeps every 15-20 seconds continuously. There has got to be a way to cut all power to the unit without setting any other alarms off. WE arent' paying the bill neither is the owner. Therefore, there is someone out there paying for a service, that also has the key codes, and the remotes for this system!! This is not the safest of situations i'll tell you that. What else can i do???

  1. un plug it, pull the back up battery pack, cut the line to the telephone, never arm the system again, and if adt comes out to investagaite cll the police on them for tresspassing  i was curious about one thing if they wont give you any info on the account how do u disarm it when it goes off dont they call and ask for a password or code or something

  2. Unplug and take the batteries out, but the police may come to investigate. If they do, show them your lease, that way they can report it to ADT and you can get it straightened out.....Cause if ADT does not get a signal then they are supposed to send someone out......

  3. They are correct, you cannot cut the power. Just like you cannot remove the tags from a pillow under penalty of law. If you do these things, the pillow police will immediately invade your home and take you to prison.

No, wait, I was confused. You can remove the power. There should be a battery backup that will keep it running for a while. If you can open the alarm box, you can disconnect the battery.

The system cannot send an alarm because you removed the phone line from it. The monitoring is now gone. The local system is all that is in place and you are now going to disable that. Goodby ADT.

Perhaps a supervisor at ADT could contact the person who is paying the bill and talk to them? It makes sense that they won't tell you for security reasons. There is no reason for them to refuse to contact the person, however. Remind them that ADT sells "peace of mind" and the current situation is not giving you that "peace of mind" that they want their customers to have.

P.S. The question includes a statement that says the phone line has already been disconnected. My answer re-stated that fact. My answer must be a good one since the next ones simply repeat what I said.
