SC Braga coach, Leonardo Jardim, claims that he is not happy with his side’s performance against Maribor. The Archbishops traveled to Slovenia and ended up with 1-1 draw but the tactician reiterates that a win was their intended target.
Portuguese giants, SC Braga, took on Maribor yesterday at Stadion Ljudski vrt in their UEFA Europa League tie and eventually emerged with a 1-1 draw.
The visitors were arguably the better side on paper and many including, Maribor Sporting director, Zlatko Zahovič, had touted them to brush aside the opposition.
However that was not the case in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Slovenia-c3008, as Braga were the first to concede and had to claw their way back into the game in order to earn a share of the spoils.
In the early exchanges of the opening half, Maribor were able to take the lead, as Baiano slipped and allowed Ibraimi to net the first of the night.
Mezga’s cross on 14 minutes was expected to be a routine clearance for the away side; however http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Quim-c30219 having absolutely no chance.
Although things remained the same for the majority of the first half, SC Braga did go level again two minutes from time.
Hugo Viana’s expertly taken free-kick was floated into the box and Elderson was on hand to apply the finish.
After the breather, the tempo of the game slowed down and both the sides were unable to further add to their tally. But there was real scare for the hosts, as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Viana-c16425 continued his lively display and almost found the back of the net late on, however the bar prevented the celebrations of the travelling supporters.
Following the draw, SC Braga coach, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leonardo-c22056 Jardim claims that he was not happy with his side’s performance, as they did not achieve what they set out to do.
"We are sad that we have not achieved our goal, which was to win. I believe that we did everything in this tough game. In the first 15 minutes Braga did not have any chances. We created opportunities but the team did show any efficiency and allowed another bad result.”
The tactician also reiterated that the team were looking to top their group and if they win their games at Estadio AXA, they would certainly be able to do so.
"Our concern is topping the group. We have two games in Braga that we may or may not win but if we achieve victory, that will surely work,” Leonardo Jardim was quoted as saying.
SC Braga now take on Feirense at home on the 23rd of October in the Primeira Liga.
