  1. i spent several months in ireland.  it's a wonderful country.

the "ring of kerry" is a must if you love the outdoors.  i enjoyed visiting the sparsely populated aran islands in the northeast as well.  almost everyone there spoke gaelic.  i felt as if i was stepping back into another era.  there are a multitude of interesting and awe-inspiring scenic vistas and geological sights such as the rock of cashel, the cliffs of moher, or giant's causeway in the north.  the larger cities are surprisingly metropolitan and diverse despite their working class roots.  the irish are highly educated and literate people, and they do know how to have fun!  if you like guiness or liquor, visit the guiness factory in dublin or one of the many distilleries that offer guided tours.

finally, i must say that you need to seek out pubs that are not filled with tourists.  the local pubs where the irish go to socialize and drink are where you will find the true heart of the country!

    have fun and enjoy yourself!!

  2. You really need to find a good guide book.  There are so many places to visit and see, it's impossible to say what's best.  Some of my favorites (I lived there for 5 years):

    Cliffs of Moher

    Aran Islands

    Donegal

    Giants Causeway

Glendalough and all of the Wicklow mountain area

    Atrium coast

    Cobh/Cork area

The list could go on and on....

  3. I've been 6 times. There is no best place, just favorites. All of Ireland is wonderful. One of my favorites is Bunratty Village. They had a wonderful castle and folk village there, and Durty Nellies pub is just across the street. The pub has traditional music most every night.  A lady friend of mine owns a B&B about a mile from the castle. I love staying with her and going to Durty Nellies, and exploring the castle and folk park during the day. It's also about an hour drive to the Cliffs of Moher, which is a wonderful place to be. You can see the Aran Islands from there. Doolin is not far from there and you can take a ferry to the Aran Islands. Another favorite place of mine is Kinsale. Cobh is a great little town too. The Titanic last left land there. I have a girlfriend living in Cobh. Dublin is a great city. Again all I can say is there is no best place, just the places you like the best.

  4. there is NO bad place to stay in ireland. it is wondrous and awesome everywhere. dont take your chevy suburban though.... you'll see what I mean when you get there
