  1. medicare is paid through your taxes and covers most medical needs, doctors hospital xrays etc.

does not cover dental or glasses if you want dental cover you  then  join a private health fund

  2. I'm a little confused by your question. Medicare is a government run scheme where the government pays back a percentage of doctor, etc visits. You don't pay for it - well you do, in your tax!

Are you asking about health insurance maybe?  Like Medibank Private, Australian Unity, etc?  There are heaps of health insurance companies out there.  Go to GOOGLE and search COMPARE HEALTH INSURANCE AUSTRALIA.  I found a neat government run site called private insurance or something similar that allows you to compare funds.  There were others to look at too.

Also consider Googling Medicare to see the basic things covered by the scheme.

    Good Luck.

  3. Medicare in Australia costs 1.5% up to $50,000 for single and $100,000 couple and when you go over that you pay another $500 (I think).  This is p;ayable to the government in your tax each year and enable you to free hospital (Qld. that I know of for sure) and partial money back from GP. Some GP's accept gov. pmt. as full pmt. though.  Depends who you see.  I do not know if people who are not Australians get to use this though.

If it is private health insurance you are referring to there is Medical Benefits Fund of Australia, Medibank Private.

Good luck.  Healh insurance is getting dearer and dearer and best thing to not get sick.
