We are thinking of moving...what's more important, being near family or being in a place that's more efficient

My husband and I are thinking of moving. We currently have no kids and live in Arkansas. I am from Cali and he is from Louisiana. We are wanting to start trying for babies in about a year and a half and have some moving options; Cali or Dallas. Cali has family and friends but is very expensive. Dallas had a much, much better job market and is much more cost efficient. I need advice from those of you who have a family and can give advise as to what's important...I guess what it boils down to is having the help and support of family .vs. a more comfortable place to live cost wise.

  1. You can get by without family, but it's a bit hard at times.  We moved 1900 miles away from our family when my husband got a job offer he could not turn down.  We miss them and it's difficult for them not to see our children too often.  We don't go out as often now because babysitting can get expensive so just going out to dinner together can cost quite a bit.

There will be a tradeoff no matter where you live, but you have to go where you will be happiest.

  2. It depends if you like your family and think they have an influence on your life.

  3. I'm from LA and now live in Dallas. I have lived everywhere from Iceland, to Idaho to Vegas & Detroit. - I have found that I am happiest in Dallas because it's easy to live here. It's cheap, the people are nice and I like the hot weather.  I have gone from being with no kids to having 2 kids.  I like it here a lot, but we have no family here and that does make it hard now with kids. - If I could move anywhere, I wouldn't, I'd stay here, even though we have no family.  The people we have met, our friends, have become a good support system, the family we have chosen - Good luck!!!!!

  4. Go with your heart that's all I can say. People who love their family will say stay in Cali and people who hate their family will say move to Texas
