in the next 18 months, my husband and i and 3 children of the ages 10, 7 and 4 years, we have been looking in the area of northlands (whangarei) as we would like a bit of land for a couple of horses, also we would be bringing two dogs with us, My husband is a plumber and im a hairdresser so we wanted to know about jobs and schools in the area, i have tried some of the n/z pen pal sites with no luck as it would be great to keep intouch with someone on a regular basis as we are coming over for a holiday next year to get to know the area more, any advise would be great, many thanks

  1. hi i'm sure you will enjoy whangarei. my ex lives there and my mate is from there and they are nice friendly people so enjoy it ^^ although south island is so much better ^^ goodluck and have fun!

  2. New Zealand is a fantastic country to move to! I'm originally from there and every time I go home I can't get over how good the scenery is there!

The people there are some of the friendliest I've ever met. Jobs are generally plentiful throughout the country. The schools in New Zealand are some of the best in the world!

This is a list of some of the schools in the Whangarei region.

    http://www.tki.org.nz/e/schools/graphica...

    That should help you.

Yes New Zealand is a lovely place, but there is, in my opinion, a darker side to the country that you would do well to be aware of.

Other people may not approve of my answer, but hey, it's my opinion!

New Zealand is infested with gangs! In almost every single town there is a gang of some form. Some parts of Auckland are very dangerous (particullary at night!).

There is a violence element in New Zealand that I have seen no where else in the world. Yes crime happens everywhere, but New Zealand seems to have plenty of it for such a small country! Everytime I check the New Zealand herald (each day) there is yet another report of a murder, rape, stabbing, shooting etc.

I personally have not been the victim of crime in New Zealand but I know a few people who have.

However, that being said, there is also alot of crime here in Australia so it really depends on which country you are moving to nz from to how you view the crime.

Bascially all I'm saying is, don't let your gaurd down! Still be careful.

Other than that, there are lots of things to do in NZ! The northland region has heaps of nice beaches and mountains! It's also not far from Auckland!

Thanks for the question :) I hope you enjoy the move!

Email me if you have any questions :)

  3. Pagrus is totaly over exaggerating the point of course there are murders every city has murders but most of the murders are in the main centres auckland, wellington, christchurch, dunedin and hamilton dont let that stop you and of course there are crimes there are crimes everywhere you go but northland is quite gang affliated it was on the news recently but they wont bother you if you dont other them

  4. I sincerely hope that when you come out to New Zealand (Godzone!) for your holiday next year you will find what you are looking for. The Northland area has great coastal scenery, some lovely beaches, normally warm weather - although rainfall can be spasmodic sometimes heavy and sometimes almost drought conditions. Around Whangarei (pronounced as: fonga ray) there are some beautiful spots such as Waipu, Tutukaka, Paihia, Bay of Islands, Ruakaka as well as some picturesque inland places such as Pipiwai, Boadwood, Waipoua (the Kauri forests are here.) Jobs for unskilled people can be difficult to get but as you are both skilled tradespeople you should not find jobs hard to get. There are many small blocks of land that you could look at for your animals the normal size is about 10 acres for "Lifestyle Blocks".

I hope you will find what you want. Good luck.

  5. I would honestly be very careful. Look up www.yahoo.co.nz there are murders and violent crimes daily, the country has gone to the pack and is very lawless, a concerned Kiwi
