We are wanting to get my 12 yoa son an electric guitar for his birthday and some playing lessons.

what is a good, but not real expensive guitar for him to start on?

  1. Get him the fender "strat pack".  It comes with a low end electric guitar, an amp and a cable... I believe that the whole package is about $200-$250.  Thats what I started on 12 years ago... I still have it too... although it is by far not a great sound quality compaired to better guitars... it is sturdy (I dropped mine several times) holds a tune real easy, is easy to string and is reasonably priced for what you get.  Good luck.


  2. yeah! usually a place like target has a few different packs you can get, and those i think are a little cheaper than the strat pack. of the packs tho, the strat pack is the best, and guitars can get expensive. for the lessons, just go to a local music store, and just ask around
