We badly needed a win, says Angelo Mathews – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Symonds-c44611 Sahara Stadium, Pune,
on Thursday.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajinkya-Rahane-c970, however, consolidated the innings for the
Royals and scored 81 runs for the second wicket partnership.
The middle-order batsmen failed to live up to the expectations and the visitors managed to score merely 145 runs in their allotted 20 overs for the loss of five wickets.
The target did not prove to be enough for the home team, who were off to a flying start through http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aaron-Finch-c881. Pune chased down the total in the 19th over for the loss of only three wickets.
After losing their initial two matches, the captain is delighted that the team has made a comeback in the event. The skipper believes that playing aggressively was the key behind the success of his batting line-up.
“We needed that badly, to be honest. We were pretty good in the field, the approach has totally changed in the batting. We backed Finch and he did a brilliant job, we were a bit cautious before,” said the Sri Lankan all-rounder.
Finch, who scored 64 off 53 balls with the help of six fours and three sixes, was named as the Player of the Match. The Australian right-handed batsman is happy with his personal performance but also praised the showing of Uthappa and
the bowlers, who curtailed a strong Royals’ batting line-up.
The opening batsman mentioned, “It was nice, we knew we had to get off to a good start, the wicket gets a bit slower and lower as the ball gets older. Credit goes to Uthappa, 32 off 16 really set us up. Today was our day, it was nice
to get away with it. I thought our bowlers did a great job to restrict them.”
