We batted poorly, admits Gautam Gambhir - Cricket News Update
Defending IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders’ skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447 on Monday admitted that his side batted poorly during the 19-run defeat to Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur last night.
Chasing a middling target of 145, set by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rahul-Shukla-c2249 pocketed two
scalps as the whole visiting line-up was bundled out for 125 in 19 overs.
Gambhir was gutted by his side’s 19-run defeat and put the blame squarely on the shoulders of his batsmen saying 145 was very much chase-able on a “very good” Jaipur track. While speaking to media reporters after the match, the KKR skipper said that lost
the wickets at the wrong time, and urged his batsmen to play “fearless not stupid” cricket.
"We kept losing wickets at the wrong time. 144 was a good job by the bowlers and we should have chased it on a good batting wicket," said Gambhir at the post-match presentation ceremony in Jaipur on Monday night.
The visiting skipper further said that he was disappointed with some of the shot selection by his batsmen, he lauded his bowlers’ efforts though.
"Some of the shots were outrageous and we cannot keep making those mistakes. The way we have bowled has been fantastic, especially http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Philip-Narine-c91869," said Gambhir.
The left-hander, who himself managed to score 22 runs at run a ball before being caught behind off Trivedi, also had a word of praise for the wicket at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
"It was an even contest for both batsmen and bowlers. That's what you want, good competition."
Gambhir hoped the defending champions would learn from the mistakes and make a strong comeback in the next game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, to be played at the latter’s backyard on April 11, 2013.
"Hopefully, we will not repeat the mistakes in the rest of the tournament. We have got a lot of quality in our bowling. We will hope to do well in Bangalore in our next match," Gambhir said.
Trivedi was adjudged as the man of the match.
