We could have won against Sunderland: Kevin Davies
The talismanic skipper of Bolton Wanderers, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kevin-Davies-c20716, claims his team could have possibly gone on to take all three points at Stadium of Light had Craig Gordon not spectacularly stopped Zat Knight’s shot on goal.
Sunderland’s in-form striker, Welbeck managed to score in the first half of the match and gave his team a much-needed lead. However, the visitors tried to get back but Zat Knight’s close range effort was exceptionally saved by Craig Gordon.
And in the end, the first half goal from the Welbeck proved to be the difference as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Craig-Gordon-c9476 managed to keep the clean and Sunderland were able to get all three crucial points.
Davies said, "I felt we deserved to take something from the game and had it not been for a world class save from Craig Gordon we could have. It was a top-drawer save and it came at a crucial point in the game. I think Zat had thought he'd scored but he's
somehow managed to palm the ball over the crossbar. Had that gone in just before half time we would have been in the ascendancy and I would certainly have fancied our chances of going on to win the game."
Moreover, Bolton Wanderers’ manager was upset by the defeat against Sunderland but claimed that he was satisfied with his team’s performance.
He said, "Even at 1-0, I still always believed we would get back into the game. We came out in the second half and in the last 25, 30 minutes, it was like the Alamo. For a team with such a home record, they were really on the back foot and we had numerous
chances to get the equalizer, but we never quite got it. Am I disappointed? Only by the result, not the performance because we put a team which is unbeaten at home to the sword in the latter stages,” said Owen Coyle.
However, after that close defeat against Sunderland at Stadium of Lights two weeks ago, the Trotters went on to win against West Bromwich Albion at Reebok Stadium by two goals. But Coyle’s men lost their last match at Stamford Bridge against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 by one
dubious goal.
Bolton Wanderers have been very impressive in the first half of current Barclays Premier League season. Owen Coyle and his men are currently placed sixth in the League.
Bolton Wanderers will visit Anfield on 1 January 2011 to play their 21st league game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809. They are favourites to claim all three points at Anfield as the Reds are going through a bad form and were recently beaten by Wolverhampton.
