We do not need psychologists: AB de Villiers
Tired of being tagged as chokers, the South African wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887 made it clear on Friday that the side does not need any expert to teach them how to keep nerves under pressure.
“We've shown recently that we can play in big situations and under pressure,” said the hard-hitting middle-order batsman while talking to the media in Chennai. “We do not need psychologists and we are focusing on small things. We are not
worried about failing under pressure at all.”
De Villiers said that the side is in its best form and is all set to prove the critics wrong by performing calmly under big match situations during the ICC World Cup 2011 that gets underway on 19 February in Dhaka.
He added that the Proteas are not concerned about what had happened in the past and are just focusing on their current game. He claimed that the team has been the opposite of chokers in recent times. Though he did concede that there would
be pressure in the knockout stage but was confident that the side will handle that comfortably.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 gloves-man, who was adjudged as the 2010 ICC Player of the Year, also talked about his personal form and said that it would be important for the wicketkeepers as well to keep their nerves in the big tournament.
The number three South African batsman, Collin Ingram joined de Villiers in his opinion.
“We are a very structured team and I don't think we should try to change that,” said Ingram. “We've been able to win a few games in tight situations but up to now we have not played a perfect series yet. If we polish what we achieved in
those games, we will be able to do that.”
Ingram said that the team is in form and can read and adapt to any kind of situations. The stylish middle-order batsman also said that the Proteas should not be rated amongst the unpredictable sides of the tournament.
Graeme Smith’s men are all set to formally starting their World Cup campaign against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 in a warm-up match at Chennai on Saturday, 12 February.
